Friends India Foundation is located by Kanyakumari. 

FRIENDS INDIA FOUNDATION is a Non-Governmental Organisation, registered in 2015, and based at Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu. The organisation is led by capable and committed people who have a strong vision for a better society.

VISION :

A sustainable socio-economic environment in which justice, equity and mutual support enable all people to realize their full potential regardless of sex, caste, religion or race, and in which rural areas would be empowered to engage in a process of holistic national development.

MISSION :

* Forming Community Based Organizations and involving them in social, economic and political development
* Empowerment of women in rural areas by designing and implementing initiatives aiming at providing sustainable economic, social and entrepreneurial development.
* Promotion of small scale level and cottage industries in the rural areas among SHG & JLGs members and provision of loans under nationalized or cooperative Bank
* Capacity building of young people so that they take a lead role in the overall development of their communities.
* Investing in the development of children with focus on the poor, orphans and the mentally retarded
* Providing shelter and care for the aged, for destitute women, and the mentally ill.
* Reduction of the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS/STDs promoting primary health care for the poor and vulnerable in a sustainable manner.
* Promotion of disaster preparedness and intervention in times of natural / man-made disasters and undertaking relief and rehabilitation measures.
* Environmental protection and promotion
* Networking with civil society organizations and other likeminded organizations for development of the socio-economically backward and deprived sections of society.

Activities:

COMMUNITY ORGANISATION :

Women’s empowerment helps raise economic productivity and reduce infant mortality. It contributes to improved health and nutrition. It increases the chances of education for the next generation.

Empowering women is critical to advancing human development and achieving progress. Gender equality is and will always remain an end in itself. But we must also recognize that when women suffer abuse and discrimination, when they do not play an active role in shaping the world around them, everyone in society loses out. Making headway in alleviating poverty and promoting equitable growth is inextricably linked to improving women’s lives and increasing their participation in decision making.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES

i. Self Help Groups (SHGs) & Joint Liability Groups (JLGs)
FRIENDS INDIA FOUNDATION has formed and is supporting 205 SHGs and 114 JLGs for women. Through these SHGs, inputs for socio-economic development of women are provided.

ii. Credit linkages: For the economic development of women, it is essential that financial support is provided to enable them to undertake productive activities. FRIENDS INDIA provides such support by establishing credit linkages for the SHGs & JLGs with nationalized or cooperative bank.

iii. Skill Trainings: Lack of adequate levels of education and absence of vocational skills is a deterrent for women’s development. Hence FRIENDS INDIA provides skill training in viable and appropriate trades to members of SHGs & JLGs.

We have provided industrial training to 654 women till 2023-2024 for the advancement of women.

We are providing tailoring training, ari work training, beautician training, napkin training, pickle making training, lotion & cleaning powder making training through art experts.

MAKKAL AROGYA SEVA:

A “ Free Medical Check-up Camp” the event aimed to bridge the healthcare gap in rural areas. Residents were provided with a range of essential services including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, ECG screenings, Height, Weight, medical consultations, and free medicines. This collaborative effort not only addressed immediate health concerns but also empowered the community with knowledge about preventive healthcare practices, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being. The success of the medical camp underscored.

ANNADANA SEVA YATRA :

FRIENDS INDIA is dedicated to care of mentally ill and very old people abandoned in the streets of Kanyakumari District. FRIENDS INDIA started this Annadana seva Yatra in October 2022. This mission of FRIENDS INDIA is to take care of the mentally retarded, the destitute,the needy and the deserving hungry. Annadana seva Yatra Programme provides food for the needy and the downtrodden people in and around Kanyakumari District.

Support for Students :

* Every year we select 50 underprivileged students and provide scholarships, notebooks, and schoolbags.

* We visit schools through qualified counselors to provide counseling to school students about good behavior and self-cleaning, healthy eating, yoga training and counseling for students under stress. Thus, we have been a crutch for students to excel in their lives.

AWARENESS PROGRAMS :

Sensitization on Cancer: 150 women from Kadiyappattinam were sensitized to know about the dreadful disease Cancer and possible measures to prevent the same. Motivated women resolved to reduce the number of cigarettes smoked by their husbands from 10 to 4 per day and reduce the consumption of any other tobacco products by any family members.

Health Education – Water Sanitation:

FRIENDS INDIA conducted sessions on handling of safe drinking water, disposing of waste water in a proper method, disposing of human waste in a suitable way, methods of disposing organic and inorganic debris, methods of disposing animal waste, maintaining good home environment, following clean habits, creating hygienic environment at village level.

Health Service - Physically Challenged People Welfare:

A Special campaign was conducted by the District Rehabilitation Centre – Kanyakumari District for the welfare of the physically challenged people in all the 9 blocks of the district. In this campaign more than 120 volunteers from our FRIENDS INDIA participated and volunteered a vital role in this campaign by registering 1412 physically challenged people for getting new Identity cards. At end of the campaign all the proposed physically challenged people have got their Identity card. District Rehabilititation Centre thanked our immense aid done by volunteers in order provide the ID cards for the physically challenged people around the district.

AWARDS AND APPRECIATION :

Student awards and certificates significantly enhance students' self-confidence by acknowledging their achievements, efforts, and progress. These recognitions serve not only as a testament to their hard work in their academic journey but also as a motivation for them to strive for excellence. Awards are tools to recognize individual students' strengths, promote a love of learning, and build a culture of respect and appreciation in the classroom.

Award Ceremony :

Awards are a recognition , an affirmation and confirmation of something done by a person to humanity in various fields, including arts , entertainment, academic education, Science, communication, sports , hobbies, humanities, technology, business, and service to society. Any person without distinction of race, occupation, position, gender or religion is eligible for these awards. It is awarded in recognition of exceptional services and performances of the highest order in any field of human endeavor.
